Founded in 2015, CASEL builds upon 20+ years of groundbreaking research that has made its predecessor—the Anthropological Center of Training and Research on Global Environmental Change (ACT)—an international reference for developing and teaching methods, linking in-depth local-scale field research (ethnographic, social survey, ecological) with geospatial analysis of regional-scale landscape change.
Under the auspices of the Department of Geography and Department of Anthropology in the Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences, CASEL provides a collaborative research and training environment for faculty, visiting scholars, and graduate and undergraduate students.
Our laboratory has 15 workstations used for formal university classes in GIS, remote sensing, human-environment interaction, and archeology, as well as for more individualized training.
